Akufo-Addo's government is considering a partnership with a company that will build alumina refineries in the country and connect them to the rail system.
In 2017, the Ghanaian government reached an agreement with China. In return, Chinese mining companies will be able to mine Ghana ’s Bauxite resources.
Overall, the agreement granting Ghana's bauxite mining rights has come under fire from environmental interest groups on the grounds that the agreement could cause damage to Ghana's forest areas and watersheds. Akufo-Addo promises that all of these projects will be carried out in an environmentally responsible manner with negligible harm to Ghana's flora and fauna.
